#JustIn: Dispute between gymnastics presidents in Supreme Court today
The president of the Namibia Gymnastics Federation, Sonja Olivier, and the deputy president of the federation, Neville Andre, appeared in the Supreme Court this morning.
Olivier is appealing against a high court ruling in which her allegations of defamation against Andre were dismissed.
Olivier argued that on 11 July 2019, Andre sent her and other Exco members an email with allegedly defamatory content that read: "To me, it's clear that you want me out of Exco because I'm black... ".
She argued that it portrayed her as a racist and allegedly violated her reputation and dignity.
She demanded in the High Court case that Andre should apologize and pay N$100 000. The High Court dismissed the application and pointed out in its judgment that although Andre admitted that he had made the statements, they were not defamatory. It was also not shared with the public, but only Exco members involved.
The full bench of judges heard arguments today and will issue a ruling as soon as a decision has been made.
