JUST IN: Man allegedly assaulted by members of NDF
A man from the district of Walvis Bay has made a case against the government alleging that he was assaulted by members of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF).
Pius Paxula Hihepa appeared in the High Court in Windhoek this morning. He is claiming N$400 000 from the government, the minister of defence and veteran affairs and the minister of home affairs, immigration, safety and security.
The alleged assault took place on 19 June 2020 near Twaloloka Settlement Tutaleni near Kuisebmund, Walvis Bay.
In his particulars of claim, Hihepa states that he suffered a wound on his right hand, sustained a distal ulna fracture to right wrist and his arm was placed in a cast. He is no longer fit to work as a carpenter and subsequently lost his job.
Although the respondents admitted that there was a joint operation venture to curtail the increase of crimes committed in Walvis Bay, they deny that the applicant was assaulted and ask the court to dismiss the claim with costs.
