Fitness instructor in court over lover’s death
Fitness instructor Tjizake Murangi (22), who stands accused of stabbing his 29-year-old girlfriend to death two weeks ago, made his first appearance in the Windhoek Magistrate's Court yesterday.
Murangi allegedly killed Frieda Amadhila, an employee of a local bank, in the early hours of 8 April when he stabbed her with a knife in her chest and arms. The incident took place in Amadhila's flat in Windhoek.
Murangi drove her to the Katutura Intermediate Hospital, where she was declared dead upon arrival.
It is alleged that once he was informed that Amadhila had died, he immediately attempted to die by suicide by stabbing himself in the neck – leading to his hospitalisation under police surveillance.
During a brief appearance in court yesterday, the matter was postponed to 19 August. He will remain in police custody pending a formal bail application.
Murangi requested to be transferred from the Windhoek police holding cells to the Windhoek Correctional Facility while investigations continue.
