Brockerhoff and co-accused back in court
Matter postponed to 30 July
Derick Brockerhoff currently has seven pending cases against him, ranging from livestock theft to poaching.
Alleged poacher and habitual criminal Derick Brockerhoff (47) and his co-accused Markus Rooinasie (27) appeared in the Windhoek Magistrate's Court on Friday after being denied bail last month.
Both accused were still without lawyers and have been without legal representation since their arrest on April 11.
Brockerhoff is expected to submit a formal bail application and appear in court again on 30 July.
During their first appearance, Brockerhoff indicated that he intends to hire a private lawyer, while Rooinasie will apply for legal aid.
Caught red-handed
Both men are facing charges of illegal hunting of huntable game after a well-known neighbourhood watch member and security officer caught them with a gemsbok and kudu carcass and a Remington hunting rifle in the mountains behind Windhoek's Eros neighbourhood in April.
State prosecutor Amize Adams pointed out during their first appearance that Brockerhoff currently has seven pending cases against him, ranging from livestock theft to poaching.
The cases allegedly span across various regions of the country. According to Adams, Brockerhoff was convicted of illegal hunting offences in 2016 and 2023, and there are still outstanding warrants for his arrest.
