A man accused of shooting and killing his estranged wife and his daughter at Stinkwater near Dordabis on Saturday has been denied bail.

Edward Rooi (57) will remain in custody in Windhoek, while his case has been postponed to 27 January 2023.

The matter was heard by magistrate Dawid Mukuyu. The State, represented by public prosecutor Edel Upindi, opposed bail as police investigations are still at an early stage.

The deceased were identified as 56-year-old Meggie Rooi and 30-year-old Goldie Landsberg, while two other people were shot and injured during the same incident.

The suspect accused one of the injured, Willem Cloete, of having an affair with his wife.

Cloete was allegedly shot four times, while bystander Sylvia Kotze was shot once in her thigh.

Rooi allegedly shot at police officers on the scene and shattered the windscreen of a police van.

Before his first court appearance yesterday morning, he told the media he regrets his actions. He feels terrible and cannot explain how he lost control of himself, he added.

Rooi faces eight charges - two counts of murder, four counts of attempted murder and two counts of malicious damage to property.
