SDFN applauded for efforts
‘One of govt’s most active partners’
The deputy minister urged members of the federation to honour their loan repayments to allow others to benefit.
Deputy minister of urban and rural development Natalia /Goagoses says the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia (SDFN) is playing a crucial role in building houses all over Namibia.
She made the comments during a handover of houses in Otjinene in the Omaheke Region last weekend.
“The federation has been one of our most active community-based partners in implementing this very critical development programme in the country. I understand that the federation has built - in Otjinene alone - 269 houses, but I know that you can still do more.”
She said the SDFN further constructed houses in the following urban centres: Gobabis (171), Aminuis (106), Leonardville (25), Witvlei (seven) and Epukiro (two).
“Our nation is undergoing rapid urbanisation and the demand for urban housing is increasing, especially among the low-income groups. To successfully address the escalating demands, we need to encourage efforts such as those displayed by the SDFN, along with partnerships involving Otjinene village council and government and the private sector,” she said.
/Goagoses urged members to continue repaying money borrowed, saying it was the only way to sustain the federation.
“I wish to call on members of the SDFN to continue to play their part not only in the construction of their houses, but also to honour their loan repayments to the federation to enable it to be sustainable, to help other needy members and to continue actively participating in regular saving and working together,” she said.
