Reduction in malaria cases rewarded
The Khorixas health district in the Kunene Region has been awarded the Simon Kunene Award for its efforts in reducing malaria cases for the last three consecutive years. The prize is named after the pioneer of malaria control in southern Africa, a renowned epidemiologist from Eswatini. The award is recognition and reaffirmation of the commitment to continue efforts to eliminate malaria by promoting best practices, the provision of resources and solid collaboration between all stakeholders. Accepting the accolade on behalf of the district, health minister Dr Kalumbi Shangula said the award was a testament to the community's commitment and support to combat malaria in Namibia. It came with a cheque for US$10 000 (over N$180 000) from the SADC Secretariat for Malaria Elimination.
