Onandjokwe gets 30 pairs of crutches
After turning patients who needed crutches away for weeks, Onandjokwe Intermediate Hospital yesterday announced that it has received new stock. Oshikoto Region health director Josua Nghipangelwa told Namibian Sun that the hospital received 20 pairs of large crutches and 10 pairs of small crutches.
Members of the public who were turned away and have not managed to find alternative care can now visit the hospital for assistance, he said.
Meanwhile, the hospital has also come under fire this week for a lack of cutlery, which has seen patients having to eat with wooden ice cream sticks.
Although the company responsible for catering at the hospital, Stream Two Property, denied the allegations and said it had enough cutlery, an irritated member of the public - whose grandparent is admitted at the state facility - refuted those claims.
According to Nghipangelwa, there was a 'hiccup' with the supply of cutlery. He was quick to add that he has warned Stream Two that management will not tolerate substandard work which jeopardises the health of patients.
