Kavango regions, Angola hold cross-border meeting
News in short
The Kavango West and Kavango East regions are currently holding a three-day cross-border meeting with health officials from Angola in Rundu.
According to Kavango West health director Franciska Hamutenya, cross-border collaboration plays a vital role in devising strategies to mitigate challenges encountered by healthcare providers, providing care during cross-border treatment and sharing best practices.
“Hence the importance of arranging for a platform to discuss relevant matters about healthcare provision, prevention and curbing of cross-border infections,” she said.
Hamutenya added that the meeting’s objectives include identifying public health challenges and the cross-border collaboration required for improved access to healthcare services for epidemic-prone diseases, including malaria, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS.
"The meeting also aims to explore maternal health and child health issues, specifically immunisations for communities near border sites," she said.
