Grandview Klein donates dialysis machines
The Grandview Klein Namibia Diamond Group, in partnership with Phillipine Angula Development, donated three dialysis machines worth N$2 million to the Oyetweni Health Centre in Windhoek last week.
At the handover ceremony, health minister Dr Kalumbi Shangula said that in the past, most state patients with kidney disease were often sent home as dialysis was primarily only offered to those with acute kidney conditions.
“I am pleased to witness great progress in terms of dialysis treatment in Namibia as we are doing our utmost best to establish renal units in all regional state hospitals.”
Shangula said state patients are often sent for private dialysis treatment through the ministry's special fund.
Equally important, he added, is the need to create widespread awareness about kidney disease in our communities.
High blood pressure and diabetes are the two most common causes of kidney failure and by educating citizens about kidney disease, we can offer more treatment to everyone in need, he stressed.
“The donation of these dialysis machines to the Oyetweni Health Centre is highly commendable as these machines are a key piece of medical equipment which offers the gift of life to many patients for many more years,” Shangula said.
The health ministry remains committed to working with all stakeholders to restore and maintain essential health services to drive progress towards national health goals and objectives, the minister said.
Accessible health services
Grandview’s president Moshe Klein added: “Today we are proud to donate three kidney dialysis machines in fulfilment of our corporate social investment and as a symbol of our commitment to our Namibian partners and stakeholders”.
“I am delighted to be in Namibia to oversee the donation and handing over of the dialysis machines to the deserving recipients in support of their commitment to deliver accessible and quality health services to the Namibian community.”
Klein further announced that the American Gem Society has pledged to extend its support towards Eros Primary School by donating percentages of its prospective sales/purchases of Namibian diamonds, adding to Grandview Klein’s donation of N$164 000 towards the procurement of learning material, IT equipment, sanitary pads and other essential supplies needed to enhance the quality of education at the school.
Grandview Klein and Phillipine Angula Development also made a donation of N$246 000 to Eros Primary School with the objective to establish a scholarship fund which offers financial support to learners pursuing further studies at respective institutions of higher learning.
