The fifth session of the Namibia-Ghana joint permanent commission of cooperation commenced in Swakopmund on 2 July, focusing on political and diplomatic relations, trade and investment, small and medium enterprise development, immigration, transport and mining, among other things.

International relations ministry executive director Penda Naanda emphasised the need for tangible progress in bilateral cooperation, trade and investment to match the strong political relations between the countries. "As technocrats, we must conduct meaningful deliberations on issues of mutual interest and produce concrete outcomes to improve the lives of our people,” he said.

He also highlighted the importance of innovative measures to connect the private sectors of both countries, leveraging opportunities presented by the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

He noted the successful export of Namibian beef to Ghana and the introduction of Ghanaian shea butter, cosmetics and fabrics to the Namibian market. The gathering will draw to a close today.
