Hengari proud of Gunners

Tura Magic hold Stars
Teams in the Debmarine Namibia Premiership have proven that they are not to be underestimated after unexpected results were at the centre of the weekend's drama.

Mighty Gunners coach Gebhardt Hengari said he was pleased with a 1-0 victory after his 10-man side edged 1-0 over Tigers at the Khomasdal Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Gunners took the lead in the first half but also had their captain sent off after two yellow cards following too-tough tackles.

“The players really fought today because we went a man down in the first half. We had to adjust our plan and it really worked out well," Hengari said.

It was 1-0 in favour of the visitors going into half-time and Tigers, in their first match of the season, had to chase the game in the second half.

The team from Windhoek tried all they could to equalise, but the 10-man Gunners proved resilient.

Gunners had their goalkeeper to thank after he pulled off important saves.

Disappointing

“It is disappointing because we had hoped to win the match, but the conditions of the pitch did not favour us.

“We will continue improving going forward as a team because this is our first weekend of playing.

“We know pretty well that we need to make sure that the players get to full fitness as soon as possible," Tigers coach Ali Akan noted.

Other results on Saturday saw Eleven Arrows beating Citizens 1-0, while Young Brazilian held University of Namibia (Unam) to a goalless draw in Karasburg.

Orlando Pirates and Mighty Gunners also couldn’t find the back of the net in their match, while African Stars failed to capitalise on their experience squad as Tura Magic held ‘The Reds’ 1-1.

The football league will continue until around December before taking a break till next year.

Debmarine Namibia has injected N$13 million into the competition, which began early this month.
