Swaitex attracts visitors from near and far

Launched in 2012, the Swakopmund International Trade Expo (Swaitex) kicked off in the coastal town this week, and will draw to a close tomorrow. At the official opening on Wednesday, Bisey Uirab, president of the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI), which organises the event, said it offers tremendous opportunities for trade, networking, insightful politics, best practice information and marketing.
Meanwhile, Mokgweetsi Masisi, the president of Botswana, urged that funding for events such as Swaitex be increased.
He noted that it serves to dispel misconceptions that African nations trade poorly with each other under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). “With just 15% of intra-African trade, there is plenty of room for improvement. Therefore, as leaders at continental level, we are committed to facilitating the seamless movement of people, goods and capital to increase trade within the African continent.”
