All roads lead to Helao Nafidi this weekend for the 17th edition of the town’s business expo.

Taking place from Friday, 25 October, to Saturday, 2 November, the event features an interesting mix of large companies, small enterprises and government institutions manning exhibition stalls, along with vendors selling traditional food.

This is made even more exciting by the town’s close proximity to the border with Angola.

This year, some 151 exhibitors have booked stalls. Not only local exhibitors will be present, but also international entrepreneurs representing countries such as Kenya.

There will also be a focus on agriculture, farming and livestock, mayor Darius Shaalukeni said.

Preparation for the expo is progressing well, he noted, adding that the team is in the final stages of arrangements, putting up exhibition stands at the showgrounds before the event kicks off this Friday. “We are ready to welcome the exhibitors to showcase their products, and we are looking forward to receiving the visitors,” he said.

Shaalukeni added that the expo will feature a boxing bonanza, Miss Teen pageant and soccer tournament.

The official opening ceremony is scheduled to take place on Monday, 28 October, with finance minister Ipumbu Shiimi expected to officiate. Entrance will be free for the official opening period only, the mayor stressed.

Shaalukeni said the expo was launched in 2004, and this year, it will be held under the theme ‘Explore the depth: Uncover the hidden treasure with the next frontier of innovation’.
