Green hydrogen: N$5.5m feasibility study kicks off
News in short
The Environmental Investment Fund of Namibia (EIF) and Fichtner, a consulting engineering company, have kicked off a feasibility study in the Erongo Region to assess the viability of green hydrogen production and its derivatives in the ‘central hydrogen valley’.
This includes the Erongo, Khomas, and Otjozondjupa regions, which are home to a large portion of Namibia's workforce, EIF said.
"It is also well-positioned from an infrastructure perspective with road, rail and port facilities linking the three regions and farther afield. Another benefit the regions present to the green hydrogen landscape is the abundance of solar resource," a statement read.
The fund further revealed that the National Planning Commission and the mines ministry are other key stakeholders in this project.
"N$5.5 million was mobilised from the Green Climate Fund readiness programme through the ministry of environment, forestry and tourism as the national designated authority," it noted.
