Ruimte celebrates five decades
Rehoboth school opened doors in 1974
The primary school celebrated five decades on Friday with good food and lots of fun.
Ruimte Primary School in Rehoboth was a hive of activity last Friday during the celebration of the school's 50th anniversary, having officially opened its doors in 1974.
The event was attended by learners, teachers, parents and former staff, with Jack Huisemab providing the music. The programme included songs and dances by learners, while the under-13 rugby team had the guests on their feet with the popular Haka of the All Blacks. Everyone from cleaners to parents worked hard behind the scenes to make the event a success.
"It's really heartwarming to see the smiles of everyone present for the celebration of five decades of respect, strict discipline and pride," principal Christel Diergaardt said.
According to her, it was lovely to chat and laugh about the good old days, especially with former teachers who attended the proceedings.
Diergaardt herself was part of the school's drum majorettes in 1976, when she was just six years old.
"Today we stand on the threshold of endless possibilities where every learner has the potential to tackle the world in their own unique way. Ruimte is not only a school for learning, but it is also a sanctuary of endless possibilities and a beacon of hope for a better future," she said.
She further emphasised that the school is geared to continue providing good quality education in a learner-friendly environment.
