Nghaamwa ploughs back into education

Former Ohangwena governor, Usko Nghaamwa, has pledged N$300 000 to the Francis Galton Primary School in Tsumeb, which is set to help the school’s goal of upgrading toilets as well as purchase much-needed textbooks, among other things.

He made the pledge at a gala, for which he also provided N$100 000 to the school for the organisation of the event.

The gala attracted N$425 000 in pledges in total, which will be used for the development of the school and buying textbooks.

Making a difference

According to FGS principal Wendy Shapwa, the school is grateful for the donation, which is set to make a marked difference to the quality of education and the school’s infrastructure.

"The funds will be used to upgrade toilets and continue painting the school as two blocks are done. Furthermore, we are hoping to get a reasonable quote for a cooling system for the hall."

She underlined that “at this moment, the learners don't have textbooks at all. We also want to buy computers for the learners."

“The event in its entirety was a great success and the first of its kind in the school's history. We are grateful for the contributions made by the governor and everyone who attended the event. The support will go a long way towards the children's development," the principal noted.

During the event, Nghaamwa said businesses and parents should not "spare any expense" when it comes to the development of a child's education.

"I urge you to always check your pockets when it comes to the education of our children. This is for our children at the end of the day," he said.
