NamPower donates to three schools
Classrooms, fencing valued at N$1.7m
NamPower Foundation head Otilie Mujoro urged parents to do their part to educate Namibia's future leaders.
NamPower last week handed over four newly-built classrooms and a storeroom to Omutaku Combined School as well as fencing to Ewanifo and Okelemba combined schools in the Ohangwena Region.
The donation was made through the NamPower Foundation at a combined cost of over N$1.7 million. Foundation head Otilie Mujoro said they have two more projects planned in the region this financial year.
She added that although resources are limited, the foundation is committed to helping less fortunate members of society.
“It is our duty as corporates, parents and teachers to ensure that these young boys and girls are fully equipped with knowledge today in order to succeed tomorrow. After all, education is a shared responsibility,” Mujoro said.
She was quick to add that education starts at home and that parents have a big responsibility to ensure their children are taught respect for adults, for other children and for property, including school premises. “As they say, it takes a village to educate a child. I therefore humbly appeal to the parents to support the teachers in this noble but daunting task of educating our children,” Mujoro said.
Assistance welcomed
Ohangwena education director Isak Hamatwi thanked NamPower for the donation and urged other corporate companies to assist the region where they can.
He said while the government remains committed to educating the Namibian child, it has limited resources and any assistance is welcomed.
He further urged the learners to make good use of the donated infrastructure and to guard them against vandalism.
