3 000 enrol in Unam readiness programme
Unique curriculum offered
The Unam programme prepares grade 12 graduates for a university education.
The University of Namibia (Unam) has enroled 3 057 students in its readiness programme for those who did not meet the initial admission requirements. These students will not be required to pay for the programme.
This enrolments took place at the southern campus, with 108 registered students, the Katima Mulilo campus (546), Rundu campus (705), Oshakati campus (727) and the Khomasdal campus (515).
Unam’s public relations manager, Simon Namesho, explained that the courses are aligned with the competencies required for Unam degrees and diplomas, ensuring that students are well-prepared for the challenges of higher education.
“The programme offers a pathway for grade 12 graduates who did not qualify for direct entry into Unam programmes by preparing them for university education through a curriculum tailored to address specific areas where they need the most support”, he explained.
Progress
Following the application period, applications were screened and admissions were processed. The general orientation and Moodle orientation are slated for June 5, with classes scheduled to begin on June 6.
“The university is now focused on providing quality education and support to the enrolled students, and future intakes will be reviewed annually to assess the capacity and potential for accommodating more students," Namesho said.
Inclusivity
The programme was introduced to cater to prospective students looking to pursue degrees and diplomas in the fields of agriculture, mathematics and science, education and human sciences and commerce and management sciences.
Additionally, it was open to learners who had attempted the advanced subsidiary (AS) level and legacy learners (NSSCH, HIGCSE) or equivalent.
Each stream of the readiness programme features a unique and tailored curriculum designed to prepare students for their desired programmes and qualifications.
For instance, students aiming for a bachelor’s degree in accounting will follow a customised curriculum with modules specifically designed to prepare them for their future studies in accounting.
