The ministry of environment has issued a warning to the public regarding fire season.
"The ministry is calling upon members of the public, farmers and property owners to put measures in place to minimise the risk of veld fires," ministry of environment spokesperson Romeo Muyunda warned.
Close to 500 000 hectares of land had been claimed by veld fires for the year already, sparking the need for the ministry to put in place mitigation measures.
"The ministry has activated fire management systems in order to deal with this expected natural disaster. The ministry will be implementing its fire management strategy, which entails fire prevention and suppression activities," he said.
Members of the public are called upon to participate in firefighting and suppression activities while reporting fire incidents to the offices of the ministry, the Namibian police, the relevant constituency offices and regional and town council offices.
