News in short
Mariud Ngula
This year’s third biggest earthquake of a magnitude of 3.2 occurred roughly 18 kilometres south of Kalkfeld on Sunday.

The mines ministry’s geological survey department confirmed the earthquake, indicating that it was recorded at four local seismic stations at Karibib, Windhoek, Kamanjab and Tsumeb.

Senior geoscientist Mako Sitali said this is the third-biggest earthquake recorded this year, with the biggest having had a magnitude of 3.7 and taking place in Kamanjab. “The second biggest had a magnitude of 3.4 and it was recorded in the south,” she said.

Sitali added that the earthquake was felt by residents, but no structural damage was reported.
