'World free of drug abuse' campaign launched
News in short
To commemorate the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking - or World Drug Day - yesterday, Uni-Health announced that it is diligently working towards adopting a scientific evidence-based approach that prioritises prevention and treatment.
This year’s campaign, aimed to strengthen action and cooperation, is themed around achieving a ‘World Free of Drug Abuse’. It recognises effective drug policies rooted in science and research, with respect for human rights. It also promotes compassion and a deep understanding of the social, economic and health implications of drug use, Uni-Health said.
Considering the statistics regarding drug use in Namibia, Uni-Health - in partnership with the Southern African Alcohol Policy Alliance and other stakeholders - urged the nation to take action against drug abuse and implement comprehensive prevention programmes in schools and communities.
