Woman kidnapped at nephew’s wedding
The mood turned from celebration to terror when a 36-year-old Namibian woman was allegedly kidnapped by six male suspects after attending her nephew’s wedding at Daan Viljoen Lodge on the outskirts of Windhoek over the weekend.
According to the Namibian Police, the victim was abducted and placed in the trunk of a Land Cruiser, which was part of a convoy behind a red BMW driven by the other suspects.
The police apprehended the suspects at 21:00 during a mini roadblock, though the location was not specified in a police report. The woman involved in the incident and who had reportedly been shouting for help, claims to recognise only one of the suspects.
Three of the suspects claimed to be Angolan police officers assigned to the intelligence department. They allege they were in the process of arresting the victim and another suspect for the theft of two vehicles in Angola.
The suspects, who are Namibian and Angolan nationals aged between 26 and 40, face several charges, including kidnapping, assault and possession of unlicenced firearms. Their vehicles were also impounded.
Police investigations are ongoing.
