Woman allegedly kills man over cigarette

Mariud Ngula
A 31-year-old man from Keetmanshoop was reportedly stabbed to death at a local shebeen last week after he asked a 28-year-old woman for a cigarette. According to a police report, the victim allegedly visited the local pub at the Ileni location, where he found a group of women and asked them for a cigarette.

One of the women allegedly got angry and started an argument with a victim that led to her stabbing him two times in the chest and on the shoulder. The police patrol vehicle in the area took the victim to the hospital and arrested the suspect.

At Iikango village in the Oshikoto Region, a 67-year-old shebeen owner was attacked by a mob of villagers who assaulted her with sticks and burned her belongings in the shebeen on Friday.

Police say they were alerted to the incident, where a mob was agitated by allegations that the woman was poisoning her customers. The police took the victim to Onandjokwe State Hospital and arrested eight suspects from the village, while the main suspect fled and remains in hiding.

More deadly assaults

The lifeless body of a man from Swakopmund was discovered by a passer-by buried in a heap of sand near Mondesa cemetery on Sunday. According to the police, the victim was last seen by a security guard at Hero Bar on Saturday. The body had sustained multiple stab wounds, police said. A stone with blood was also found at the scene, suspected to have been used in the deadly assault. Police investigations continue.

A man was allegedly assaulted to death at Havana four-way in Windhoek on Saturday. Police say they were alerted to a robbery by a taxi driver and found the victim lying on the ground, having sustained serious injuries. The victim was rushed to the hospital by the municipal ambulance and was declared dead upon arrival.
