Woman (60) arrested at Ariamsvlei for alleged drug smuggling
A 60-year-old Namibian woman was arrested on Monday, 13 January 2025, at the Ariamsvlei border post after officials discovered six parcels of suspected crystal methamphetamine in her possession, worth N$1.3 million.
According to the Namibian Police, the woman was entering Namibia from South Africa around 22:00 when her behavior raised suspicions. Border officials conducted a search, during which two parcels of a clear unknown substance, suspected to be crystal meth, were found.
The Drug Law Enforcement Unit was called to the scene, and with the assistance of a female NamRA official, a more thorough search uncovered additional parcels concealed on her body and in her luggage.
In total, six parcels of the suspected crystal meth, weighing 2,635 grams, were seized. The woman was promptly arrested and charged with contravening Act 41 of 1971, Section 2(c) – Dealing in Prohibited Dangerous Producing Substances. The suspect is expected to appear in the Karasburg Magistrate’s Court today (Wednesday). Police investigations are ongoing as authorities work to uncover more details about the origin and intended destination of the drugs.
