Young woman arrested for ‘dumping’ baby
The number of rape cases involving minors has increased exponentially in the last month, police said.
At least seven cases of rape of minors were reported over the weekend across the country.
On Tuesday, 27 September, in Ondangwa, a 21-year-old man was arrested for raping a two-year-old toddler.
It's alleged that the suspect – who is the victim’s uncle - had sex with her under coercive circumstances in the bushes of Onayena village.
In Katima Mulilo on Thursday, 29 September, in Katongo village, a 16-year-old girl was reportedly raped in a hut by a man she knows.
The victim was on her way home after extra classes when she was followed and raped. The suspect is yet to be arrested.
Boy raped
In Otjomuise, a case was opened on Friday after a 15-year-old boy was raped by a 27-year-old man.
The suspect allegedly met the victim after the boy went to buy ice at his friend's house.
The man asked the victim to follow him to his house, but the boy resisted.
Reaching the gate, the man then reportedly grabbed and dragged the boy into a room, undressed him and intentionally had sex with him. The suspect has been arrested.
On Friday, a 17-year-old was raped in Dolam. It is alleged the victim was forced into the suspect’s room and raped at knife-point. The suspect has yet to be arrested.
Furthermore, in Mariental, a 14-year-old girl was raped when she was instructed by a family member to share a bed with the suspect because of limited sleeping space. The suspect later fled to Windhoek and will be apprehended, according to police.

Abortion, baby dumping
Meanwhile, in Swakopmund on Thursday, an eight-week-old aborted foetus was found in the DRC informal settlement. The foetus was taken to the Swakopmund State Hospital for storage.
In another incident, a case of baby dumping was opened against an 18-year-old woman after a newborn baby was found near the sewage area of the Ndama location in Rundu. Both the woman and the baby were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
Suicide, robbery
On Saturday, 1 October, 46-year-old Kasanga Ncui sustained serious injuries before hanging himself on a tree with a wire approximately two kilometres from his homestead.
It is alleged the deceased first cut himself with a traditional knife between his thighs before dying by suicide.
In a house break-in in Windhoek’s Eros suburb, a victim was robbed of items worth N$650 000 after a group of five masked robbers broke into a house, held a woman at gunpoint and stole the following items, among other things: A curved Samsung TV, a computer, a MacBook, a cellphone, boxes of various jewellery and a handbag containing documents. No arrests have been made.
