Wedding guest murdered

Oshikoto Region police have arrested a 24-year-old man accused of the brutal murder of a 34-year-old woman whose body was found in a pool of blood on Saturday morning at Ondera Farm, where she had been attending a wedding.

Preliminary evidence suggests the woman was likely raped before she was killed.

According to the police, the victim, Petrika Axurus, had travelled to Wells Post, situated on Ondera Farm in the Quinas constituency, with her two children and a cousin on Friday.

“It is alleged that on Friday, [Axurus] came from Ombili Farm with her kids and a cousin to Ondera for a wedding that was to take place on Saturday," police said.

“As they arrived at the bride’s place, they found people already celebrating and while they were there, the deceased was seen dancing. The last time the deceased was seen by the cousin was when she was going around asking for a cigarette," a police report noted.

“The cousin did not know where the deceased went until Saturday morning, when she noticed the two kids were alone and the mother was nowhere to be seen."

Gruesome discovery

The police reported that in the early morning hours of Saturday, a man went outside to relieve himself in the bush. While there, he discovered a pair of sandals and marks that looked like someone had been dragged across the ground.

“The witness followed where the person was dragged, and he saw a naked body lying a few metres ahead, and he immediately went back in the house to inform people of his discovery and they alerted the police.”

The deceased's body was found lying on her back in a pool of blood.

Police say current evidence suggests the woman was likely raped before she was killed.

The police further said the woman had been stabbed multiple times with an unknown object, with wounds sustained in her neck, right abdomen and chest.

The suspect was arrested on Saturday in the same area and is expected to appear in the Tsumeb Magistrate’s Court this week.
