Two men arrested after allegedly kidnapping taxi driver

Police arrested two men, aged 20 and 24, at the Ongwediva traffic roadblock last weekend after they allegedly kidnapped a taxi driver, hijacked his car and embarked on a robbery spree.

"They removed the driver from his vehicle, threatening him with a knife, and tied him with a rope on his arms and legs before they put him in the boot of his car," a police crime report stated. The kidnappers also physically assaulted the man, who was later found bruised in the back of his car.

It is alleged the suspects broke into various cuca shops before breaking into the History Bar at Okapuku village, Omuthiya, where they stole a jackpot machine, alcohol and cash.

In response, the bar owner fired shots in the direction of the car with a shotgun, which hit it on the driver's door," police said.

The suspects fled the scene on foot, leaving behind the car. Police were called to thes scene and discovered the taxi driver in the car's boot.

The police the men stole were retrieved from the car and had been valued at over N$101 000.

The taxi driver has opened an additional case of robbery with aggravating circumstances and kidnapping against the suspects.

On Friday in Swakopmund, police opened a case after an unknown man unlawfully and intentionally misrepresented himself, misleading a 75-year-old Namibian pensioner to allow the suspect to withdraw N$58 000 from her account without her consent. "No recovery of the stolen money nor arrest of the suspect has been made," police stated.

Additionally, in Swakopmund, police said an investigation was launched after a suspect unlawfully and intentionally defrauded Bears Furnishers by falsely claiming to be a Rössing Uranium company employee to purchase goods valued at N$173 799. No recovery of the items nor arrest of suspects has been made.

Police are also investigating the killing of a black rhino on an Otavi farm last week. The suspects removed one horn valued at N$ 500 000. No arrests have been made to date.

Police are searching for a male suspect accused of raping a two-year-old girl on Saturday in the Epako settlement in Gobabis. The man fled the scene of the rape after a 13-year-old girl discovered him assaulting the child.

The suspect fled the scene but is known to police, and efforts to arrest him are ongoing.
