Thieves disrupt NBC service

Some Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) listeners were left frustrated on Wednesday after several NBC radio stations went offline. This due to thieves stealing copper telephone cables in Oshakati East.

This has also caused disturbance with operations at the Oshana regional council offices, with communication being cut for several hours.

Oshana Region police community affairs officer, Inspector Thomas Aiyambo, said the cables were stolen from a manhole behind the regional council office. The thieves also cut connection cables from poles at nearby Extension 16, he said.

The value of the stolen cables is not yet known, no recovery has been made and the suspects have yet to be arrested.

Aiyambo urged the public to report anyone seen selling copper cables.

By Thursday morning, NBC’s systems had been restored.
