SHORTS: Boy (10) kills toddler in Omusati
A tragic incident unfolded on Saturday night at Akaonde village in Onesi Constituency, Omusati Region, where a 2-year-old girl was allegedly killed by a 10-year-old boy.
According to reports, four children, all under the age of 10, were left home alone while their parents visited local shebeens. When the parents returned at around 20h00, they discovered that two children—the deceased and the suspect—were missing from the house. Upon inquiry, another child revealed that the suspect had stuffed sand into the 2-year-old’s mouth, causing her to suffocate.
The suspect, who is reportedly disabled, then hid the girl’s body in a nearby bush before going into hiding in a mahangu field.
Omusati police regional commander, Commissioner Ismael Basson, confirmed the incident to Namibian Sun. Due to the suspect’s young age, he will not be arrested. Instead, he will be handed over to a social worker. The police are conducting an investigation and will submit their findings to the prosecutor general for a decision.
