Shopkeeper steals N$26 000 from safe

A 22-year-old woman allegedly stole money from her workplace over the weekend and set paper alight to conceal her crime.
The incident took place at Ontana village in the Oshikoto Region, where the woman is employed as a shopkeeper.
According to the Namibian Police, the suspect - who cannot be named as she has yet to appear in court - was arrested on Saturday for stealing N$26 000 from the shop’s safe and setting paper on fire in the safe to cover up the crime.
Chief Inspector Ellen Nehale of the Oshikoto community policing sub-division said the suspect allegedly claimed that the money was burned in the safe. After investigations, it was discovered that she stole the money. An amount of N$7 000 has been recovered so far, police said.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Ondangwa Magistrate's Court this week. Police investigations continue.
