Pastor arrested after shooting at church
News in short
A pastor has been arrested for allegedly shooting at one of his congregants, reportedly for disturbing a church gathering.
The suspect, who serves at Kakonda Church in the Ashaaga village near Ongwediva, has been charged with attempted murder and is expected to appear in the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court this week.
Chief Inspector Thomas Aiyambo from the Oshana community policing subdivision said it is alleged that the suspect shot the man in his foot after an argument. The pastor reportedly accused the man of disturbing people at a crusade that was taking place at the church.
The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The victim has been admitted to the Oshakati State Hospital, and is in a stable condition.
“The scene was attended by the police immediately after the incident. However, the victim was not found at the scene and nobody could trace his whereabouts. He showed up at the hospital on Sunday afternoon for medical attention,” Aiyambo said.
A case was then opened, and the pastor was subsequently arrested.
