News editor charged for lover’s assault
A news editor of a local daily newspaper was criminally charged this week for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend on Monday night. City Police officers visited the newspaper's premises around lunchtime yesterday and summoned the veteran scribe to the station. His radio presenter girlfriend suffered a swollen face and had her braids ripped out of her scalp during the vicious attack.
“He punched my jaw, so I have a swollen jawbone. My hands are swollen as well, as he twisted my arms. He also ripped out my braids, so my scalp is sore,” the woman (30) told online publication Informanté yesterday.
Police sources told Namibian Sun that the 50-year-old editor was not arrested because he was charged with second-degree assault. “An argument between [the two] erupted, leading to a fight, and that prompted the female victim to open a case of common assault at the Otjomuise police station,” national police spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, said.
