Namibian arrested in UK over girlfriend’s alleged murder
A 28-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend to death in Kingston Upon Hull, United Kingdom (UK), last Friday.
Namibian Police spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, who confirmed the incident, said they received the information through Interpol’s National Central Bureau in Windhoek.
Investigations are ongoing, she said.
The victim has been identified as 22-year-old Claudine 'Claudia' Kambanza.
She died after being stabbed in the chest - allegedly by Johannes Mateus.
The suspect is reported to currently be in custody in the UK.
“Both the suspect and victim are believed to be from Namibia,” Shikwambi said, adding that the police did not have any additional information on the incident at the moment.
Meanwhile, social media posts have been doing rounds on Facebook with Namibians saying Matheus was arrested last Friday, and a murder investigation has been launched.
Those pouring out condolences have also stated that police officers were reportedly called to the crime scene at around 03:00, and that a woman had sustained stab wounds.
Kambanza was rushed to hospital for medical care, but succumbed to her injuries a while later.
Mateus allegedly initially fled the scene and was later arrested. He has been charged with murder and being in possession of a knife in a public place.
