Man sets ghetto alight
Four lives lost
A man murdered his girlfriend and her two children as well as taking his own life when he allegedly set fire to the ghetto in which they were living in Karibib earlier today.
According to police spokesperson Chief Inspector Illeni Shapumba, the woman (23) reported her boyfriend at the police station yesterday for a domestic related complaint and said that she wanted him to be removed from the ghetto. "The matter was attended to by the police and it was resolved that he remove his belongings, which he kept at a ghetto belonging to his victim's sister. After the warning, he promised not to return to the ghetto."
Shapumba said that the man returned at about 05:00 this morning and was convinced to leave by the victim's sister, but he returned again at around 06:00.
"The deceased allegedly called her sister again and informed her that he had broken into the house and was inside her ghetto. The sister ran to the ghetto and pushed open the door and found the ghetto burning with the two children screaming on the bed while the boyfriend was holding the victime, pushing her against the corner of the ghetto and stopping her from escaping the fire. It is suspected that the man set the ghetto alight, resulting in the death of the victim, the two children and himself."
Next of kin have been informed and the victims have been identified as Josephine Nauses (23) and her daughters Regina Nauses (7) and Loide Nauses (3).
The man was identified as Mandela Afrikaner Mbaunguraiye (25).
Police investigations continue.
