Man killed by fire during epileptic seizure
A man died last week after he suffered an epileptic seizure while cooking food on a fire at his home in Onavivi village in the Omusati Region.
The police confirmed that Paulus Naupu Kukengwa was suffering from epilepsy. On Friday, he is suspected of experiencing a seizure while he was cooking food on the fire. During the seizure, he fell into the fire and sustained fatal injuries.
Omusati police deputy commissioner Moses Simaho said the elderly homeowner, whose exact age is unknown, was last seen at a cuca shop on Wednesday, 3 August.
His body was discovered on Friday. Preliminary findings from the police investigation indicate that the elderly man fell into the fire and sustained fatal injuries.
"He lives alone in the house. His lifeless body was discovered by one of his visiting cousins on Friday at around 11:00," Simaho said.
His body has been transported to Okahao police mortuary for a postmortem.
"The tragedy will be fully investigated. At this stage, no foul play has been established," Simaho said.
Dangerous mob
In a separate incident on Friday, at around 19:00 at Okakutu location, Ohamwala village in the Outapi constituency, a mob of community members allegedly attacked Hamunime Godhard (38) with stones and sticks.
Godhard suffered injuries to his head and jaw, including broken teeth.
Simaho said it is not clear what led to the assault, but a case of attempted murder has been opened against the suspects.
Godhard was taken to Outapi District Hospital and was later transferred to Oshakati Hospital, where he is in critical condition.
Simaho said the suspects are known but are yet to be arrested.
