Erongo police combat drug crimes
In an effort to ensure public safety and combat drug-related crimes, the Erongo regional police recently conducted a safety and drug search operation at the Swakopmund roadblock.
During the stop and search operation, Erongo regional police commander, Commissioner Nikolaus Kupembona, explained that it was a regular police operation.
“This is just to reassure members of the public that we are not sitting back. We are on the ground and trying by all means to curb the widespread use of drugs in the region with the assistance of the members of the public,” Kupembona said.
The police said that by maintaining a visible presence and enforcing strict regulations, law enforcement authorities send a clear message to deter individuals from engaging in criminal behaviour.
The commissioner added that the regional police are assisted by K-9 sniffer dogs to boost police-led intelligence operations.
Successful raids
During another recent police operation at a residence in Walvis Bay, police arrested a 28-year-old woman, while an unidentified man remains at large.
During a search of the house, police discovered 1 336 grams of cannabis (skunk) and 80 mandrax tablets valued at N$76 400.
In another raid at an apartment in Narraville, a 34-year-old Namibian man was arrested.
He was found in possession of 113 grams of cannabis, 23 units of suspected crack cocaine and seven whole and four half mandrax pills.
Warrant officer Tuyenikelao Tashiya said the drugs were estimated to be worth over N$9 000.
