Eenhana bridal couple's family seek public's help after devastating theft
Robbers steal wedding dresses, groom's suit, rings and more
Eenhana police and family of the couple are asking the public to assist in locating the robbers and the stolen wedding items, valued at over N$16 700.
An family of the Eenhana-based bride and groom whose wedding plans suffered a severe blow last week following the theft of their wedding rings, the bride’s dresses, the groom’s suit, food and other essentials for their late August wedding, confirmed on Sunday that their belongings have not yet been recovered.
The family of the couple are urging good Samaritans for financial assistance, while the police have urged the public for help to find the robbers and recover the stolen items.
'Heartbreaking'
The theft at a house in Ombili location in Eenhana where their wedding gear was stored occurred on the night of 13 to 14 August. The robbers stole items valued at almost N$17 000, police said.
The bride's sister, Johanna Simon, said most of the wedding paraphernalia has to be replaced, including the bridal dresses, the groom’s suit and the wedding rings.
“This is just heartbreaking. Most of the food intended for the wedding was also stolen, so we have to re-purchase everything. If anyone can assist, please help us. We really need it,” Simon said.
She said the couple’s wedding announcement date is 25 August, and the wedding is scheduled for 30 and 31 August. Simon said so far the family plans to proceed with the wedding as planned, despite the setback, and will not be postponing the festivities.
Social media messages have circulated, asking anyone who identifies the stolen wedding items being sold in Eenhana or surrounding areas to contact the nearest police station.

The stolen items include two wedding gowns, silver wedding rings, two pairs of shoes, two body sprays, a navy-blue man’s suit, two wristwatches, a gas cylinder, a cosmetics bag, two flower girls' baskets, two men’s shirts, a sleeping gown, a white towel, dried beef, a duvet, and silver bracelets, the police said.
Ohangwena police regional commander, Commissioner Ottilie Kashuupulwa said a robber used an unknown object to unlock the padlock on the complainant’s shack, gained entry, and stole the complainant’s property.
Relatives and friends of the bride and groom are urging anyone with information that could lead to the recovery of the stolen items to come forward. Those willing to offer assistance can contact Simon at 081 365 8720 or 081 355 5151.
