Drug arrests dominate Swakopmund weekend crime
Swakopmund proved to be a hotspot for drug busts over the weekend.
A 28-year-old Congolese woman was arrested at her house in Tamariskia’s Scorpio Street on Friday after she was found in possession of six kilograms of skunk cannabis, 11 doses of cocaine powder and seven bankies of crystal meth. The drugs were valued at N$313 000.
In Mondesa, a 31-year-old man was arrested after being found in possession of 693 grams of cannabis as well as 72 full, one half and loose pieces of mandrax tablets. The contraband is worth N$ 43 470.
In another Mondesa bust, a 35-year-old man was arrested when found in possession of three big parcels of cannabis (713 grams) worth N$ 35 650.
Meanwhile in Aranos, four Namibian men between the ages of 19 and 44 were arrested after they were found with 108 bankies of cannabis and 120 full mandrax tablets valued at N$20 000.
In Windhoek's Goreangab, a Congolese man was arrested after he was found with four big parcels and two moderate plastic bags of cannabis, weighing 3 950 grams and valued at N$197 500.
Man found in pool of blood
Over the weekend, a man was found naked in a pool of blood in Mondesa. According to a police report, the victim was found bleeding from the head and face, and was unable to speak.
His clothes were found torn next to him, and he has not been identified.
Two suspects were arrested after they were found at the scene with blood stains on their clothes as well as with two plastic objects, suspected to have been used to carry out the assault.
In other news, 23-year-old Douglas Baisako succumbed to stab wounds this weekend in Mariental. The deceased was stabbed with a knife to the right side of his body on Friday. A suspect has been arrested.
Man dead after argument
In Windhoek’s Katutura, Petrus Karigub died after he was allegedly pushed by a 40-year-old man during an argument. The victim fell against a shopping trolley and was declared dead at the scene.
It is alleged the two men were arguing about a woman, who was also present at the time. No physical wounds were observed and the deceased was taken to the mortuary to determine the cause of death.
Minor raped
An Angolan man was arrested this weekend after a case of rape was filed against him. According to the police, the suspect raped an 11-year-old girl at the Omusati Region’s Olupito village.
It is further alleged the suspect – who is the victim’s neighbour - found her at a kraal, carried her to his residence and raped her. He will appear in the Outapi Magistrate’s Court today. Police investigations continue.
