Over 250 inmates who escaped from police holding cells since 2019 are still on the loose.
This according a report on human trafficking and missing persons by the criminal investigation directorate, which revealed that since 2019, there have been 970 attempted prison escapes. Of these attempts, 690 inmates have been reapprehended, while 284 remain at large.
Meanwhile, since 2019, 74 adults aged 18 to 35 have been reported missing. Of these, 69 have been found, and five are still missing.
The report said of the 30 children under 15 that were reported missing since 2019, 27 have been found.
Four people have been found guilty and charged with trafficking in persons in the years 2019 (one), 2022 (two) and 2023 (one), the report found.
