New book simplifies African markets – Dempsey

News in short

FirstRand Namibia group CEO Conrad Dempsey this week said a newly-launched handbook will be especially beneficial to small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The book, 'Actualising the African Economic Vision: A Practical Handbook on the AfCFTA', was compiled by the Ghana International Trade and Finance Conference (GITFiC) and focuses on the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).

"It's a practical guide for any business person, big or small, on how to leverage what's intended in the agreement, so I want to encourage everyone to grab a copy.

“Whether you're a small or big business, and if you’ve wondered how to access other markets in Africa, this is the answer," Dempsey said.

According to GITFiC CEO Silasi Koffi Achom, the handbook aims to enhance understanding of the AfCFTA framework in a simplified manner.

He added that the themes discussed in the book cover the fundamental aspects of the agreement.

"The handbook is principally tailored for the business community in Africa. The African Union has recommended it for Africa's educational system too. There are 10 chapters in all, including [one on] the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System.”
