GREEN HYDROGEN NEEDS WOMEN: On Tuesday, Monica Geingos was a keynote speaker alongside Tinne Van der Straeten, minister of energy in Belgium, at the Women in Green Hydrogen Africa Chapter launch at Avani Hotel, an event held as part of the Global African Hydrogen Summit currently underway in Windhoek.
In her keynote address, Geingos noted that Namibia is first in Africa and eighth globally in closing the gender gap. "This matters because, in transformative moments like this, we can see the exclusion of women, and inclusivity in this sector is crucial," she said.
Globally, girls outperform boys academically, and for over 30 years, the majority of graduates have been female. "Yet, we don’t see this reflected in leadership roles. It’s time to change the narrative and make room for women to take up leadership positions," Geingos urged.
Geingos added: "We need to build networks and mentorship programmes that support women entering this field and rising to leadership positions."
