#JustIn: SARB still monitoring inflation
South African Reserve Bank (SARB) Governor Lesetja Kganyago acknowledged that inflation has eased, but stressed it was premature to declare victory in the battle to contain price pressures, Fin24 reported. According to Stats SA, inflation stood at 4.8% in August. The central bank prefers to anchor inflation expectations close to the midpoint (4.5%) of its target range of 3% to 6%. At the previous monetary policy announcement, SARB kept the repo rate rate unchanged at 8.25%.
