Western MK to release third EP

Namibian Afro-pop and R&B artist Western MK is set to release his third project, an EP titled ‘Kwimbo’, in July.

Born in Rundu and raised in Lüderitz, Western MK's musical journey began in a church choir before he ventured into the music industry. “My solo career took off in 2019 with the release of my debut album, ‘African Queen’, produced by my cousin JB Scoff in a humble home studio. This was followed by my second project, the ‘Smango EP’, produced by DJ Holly Slow,” he shared.

Now, Western MK is gearing up to unveil his latest work, ‘Kwimbo’, which translates to 'home'. He mentioned that this seven-track EP, produced under Unique Records, delves deeply into his personal experiences, reflecting on the highs and lows of his life.

“'Kwimbo' draws inspiration from a particularly challenging period when I felt abandoned by some and supported by others,” he said, adding that this emotional roller-coaster is encapsulated in the EP, which Western MK describes as addressing the possibilities of a diasporic genre.

The EP features production by Ali the Mini King, with visuals for the lead single ‘Museni’ shot by renowned Namibian video producer Sodo.

Western MK maintains that his music is a voice for the voiceless, drawing from everyday experiences and the struggles of those around him. Despite the pressures of creating an EP independently with only his guitar, he finds solace and satisfaction in his solo career, he said.

Beyond the music, he shared that he is dedicated to cooking classes and hopes that ‘Kwimbo’ will positively impact Namibian society, especially the children on the streets and those who have lost hope in education. He further emphasised the responsibility artists have to deliver meaningful messages through their music, recognising its powerful influence on both young and old.
