Tyla releases deluxe album
Tyla expands hit album with fresh music
South African pop star to drop deluxe edition featuring three unreleased songs.
'Tygers' are in for a treat as South Africa-born music superstar Tyla will be releasing new music as part of the deluxe version of her self-titled album.
‘Tyla’, which the 22-year-old singer and songwriter dropped in March, has been met with widespread acclaim. It features her viral hit 'Water’, which won her the inaugural Best African Music Performance award at the 2024 Grammys. The singer, whose full name is Tyla Lauren Seethal, also bagged the Best Afrobeats honours at the MTV Video Music Awards last month, following her Billboard and BET wins earlier this year.
Her album also includes 'Jump', which features American rapper Gunna and Jamaican musician Skillibeng and was shot in the 'pretty girl from Joburg’s' hometown.
Other fan favourites include ‘ART’, ‘Truth or Dare’ and ‘On My Body’, featuring Becky G. The pop icon recently took to Instagram to announce that ‘Shake Ah’, featuring Tony Duardo, Optimist and Maestro, ‘Push 2 Start’ and ‘Back To You’, will be released on streaming services on Friday, 11 October. Tyla’s artwork for her deluxe appears to pay tribute to ‘Water’ as she also posted a picture of her soaking wet while dressed in a brown corset with a running water hose wrapped around her waist.
Meanwhile, the back cover is a shot of her standing in heels in a puddle of water.
Coming home
The musician is set to return home this festive season, where she will perform in Cape Town and Pretoria for her first local tour since her meteoric rise to stardom. It will see her taking to the stage at the Grand Arena, GrandWest in the Mother City on Thursday, 5 December, as well as at the SunBet Arena in Menlyn on Saturday, 7 December. Performances for both shows start at 8 pm.
Tickets are priced from R500, available through Ticketmaster, and go on sale from Thursday, 10 October.
The concerts come following some drama earlier last month as she was announced as part of the Coke Studio 2024 line-up, where she’ll be performing in Johannesburg. But only her US and Canadian fans will have a shot at experiencing her live in her hometown as part of an all-expenses-paid sweepstakes. Meanwhile, Tyla will also headline Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in New York on Tuesday, 15 October, following her performances at Louis Vuitton’s pre-Olympics party in Paris as well as at Lollapalooza in Chicago and Outside Lands festivals in San Francisco.
