Real Hoveka: A rising star on Namibia's music scene

MICHAEL KAYUNDE
Real Hoveka, a proudly mixed-tribe artist with roots in both the east and the north of Namibia, recently dropped a captivating new single that is making waves locally.

The single, titled ‘Mbatara Mbamana’ - which translates to 'I Want The Gold', is a blend of English, Otjiherero and Afrikaans, and is a powerful and inspiring blend of local hip-hop sounds.

In an interview with tjil, Hoveka shared that he was raised on the vibrant streets of Katutura's Grysblock, adding that he draws inspiration from his surroundings and personal experiences to craft music that resonates with the Namibian society.

"'Mbatara Mbamana' serves as a reminder for one to focus on their goals, embrace the hustle and provide for their family while avoiding a mediocre existence,” he said.

Expanding his fan base

As an up-and-coming artist, Hoveka shared he is diligently working on expanding his fan base before releasing a full-length project.

He also mentioned that he has collaborated closely with talented Namibian artist The Smith, who also serves as his music partner and mentor. Together, they have established their own record label called B.L.v.C.K Entertainment.

Among their notable collaborations is the trending hit ‘Kapana’, alongside Bruce.

“The 'Kapana' track, blending Afropop, dancehall and local hip-hop sounds, has taken music platforms by storm, including Spotify and SoundCloud.

“Additionally, it has gained significant airplay on NBC national radio stations with radio personalities like the veteran Max T showing it love. I am hoping ‘Mbatara Mbamana’ will have a similar or even better response,” he said.
