An avant-garde body of work titled 'Project 23' is on the brink of reshaping the country's rap landscape. The project is set to be officially launched on Saturday, 19 August, in Windhoek.

Executive produced by visionary creative Elifas Andreas, ‘Project 23’ is a collaborative undertaking featuring 16 rap artists from Namibia.

Consisting of 15 tracks - each showcasing a distinctive style and drawing inspiration from an array of musical influences - this body of work is set to become a resounding testament to the boundless talent within the Land of the Brave's rap community.

The driving force behind this ambitious undertaking, Andreas is known for his uncanny knack for identifying unique voices and creative energies.

“I am a hip-hop enthusiast who wants to showcase Namibian hip-hop, to practice the power of collaboration and to demonstrate the impact that hip-hop has,” he said.

Defying convention

The featured artists, a diverse assembly of both seasoned veterans and emerging rappers, have united their creative forces to conjure an auditory experience that defies convention.

“The idea is to create awareness and shine a spotlight on emerging rap talent and, at the same time, celebrate our established rappers, hence this body of work features veterans like Jericho, Mappz and J Black,” Andreas said.

He added that by featuring an ensemble cast of both well-established artists and burgeoning luminaries, 'Project 23' will foster an environment where mentorship and collaboration flourish organically, transcending egos and hierarchies.

“Subsequent to this auditory sojourn, a public discourse will provide a glimpse into the creative process, the collaborative ethos and the profound significance of unity within the realm of art, especially within Namibian hip-hop,” Andreas said.
