MTC Windhoek Fashion Week has sent two of Namibia’s leading fashion designers to represent the country at the prestigious Batho Fashion Week in Gaborone, Botswana. The event, which kicked off yesterday, will draw to a close today, 6 September.

The designers representing Namibia are Armando van Wyk, the visionary founder of King_A_Apparel, and Jody Claassen, the creative force behind J.Class.

Van Wyk is known for his bold and edgy designs that challenge conventional fashion norms. His work has become synonymous with creativity and expression, making him a prominent figure in Namibia’s fashion scene. Meanwhile, Claassen brings a unique flair to the runway with her ethereal and sophisticated designs that embody grace and elegance. Her brand has captivated audiences with its timeless appeal and intricate craftsmanship.

According to a press release issued by MTC Windhoek Fashion Week, this landmark opportunity comes as a result of a strategic partnership signed last year with its counterpart in Botswana, aimed at fostering collaboration and strengthening ties in the arts and cultural space between the two nations.

The participation of these designers at Batho Fashion Week is not only a platform to showcase their brand and talent, but also an invaluable opportunity to market and sell their products beyond Namibia’s borders, the statement read. "This cross-border collaboration underscores the importance of cultural exchange and the growing influence of Namibian fashion on the international stage."

Speaking about this exciting development, Luis Munana, MTC Windhoek Fashion Week director, said: "We are thrilled to see Namibian designers taking their talents to new heights. Batho Fashion Week provides an excellent opportunity for them to engage with a wider audience, expand their market reach, and solidify Namibia’s position as a key player in the global fashion industry".

“This collaboration is a testament to the strength of our partnership with Batho Fashion Week and our shared commitment to promoting arts and culture across borders," he added.
