MTC Windhoek Fashion Week empowers creatives
The Fashion Meets Sound project, funded by the Sound Connects Fund, aims to develop and promote a stronger relationship between the music and fashion industries.
The project team - consisting of members of the MTC Windhoek Fashion Week team - will travel to eight regions of Namibia to discover and empower young, aspiring musical artists and fashion designers.
The highly anticipated national tour is all set to make its next stop in Swakopmund in the Erongo Region from Friday, 17 March, to Sunday, 19 March.
The tour will then be making its way to the major towns of the Kavango East, Kavango West and Zambezi regions. It will kick off in Nkurenkuru on Wednesday, 5 April, followed by Rundu on Thursday, 6 April. The tour will then conclude in Katima Mulilo on Saturday, 8 April, with activities planned during the Zambezi Bream Festival.
The collaborative initiative also aims to empower local musical talents through masterclasses and providing opportunities for local creatives in various fields.
The team will travel to various schools around Namibia to discover talented learners, where selected designs will be created with local designers in their respective towns. The project will further incorporate photographers, videographers, animators, sound engineers and DJs.
Fashion Meets Sound began in August 2022 and will ends this August, with the most impressive pick from each of the eight regions given the opportunity showcase at the country's biggest annual fashion event, MTC Windhoek Fashion Week.
The project has already visited three major regions and hosted masterclasses, networking mixers and pop-up shops. Those interested in being part of the initiative can reach out to the MTC Windhoek Fashion Week team on social media.
