‘Lauf’: Namibian premiere next week
Getting to know Laudika yaNdangii
The 17-minute German-Namibian short film was written and directed by Laudika Thanky Hamutenya.
Scheduled for a private screening in Windhoek on Wednesday, 14 September, short film ‘Lauf’ was shot in 2021 and was made possible through funding from the Baden-Wuerttemberg ministry of science, research and arts, in association with Filmakademie, a film school in Ludwigsburg, Germany.
The film has travelled to a total of nine festivals. It has also been nominated as semi-finalist at the Pan African Youth Film and Arts Festival as well as the Sindhudurg International Short Film Festival in India.
The screening will take place at the Goethe-Institut.
About the director
Laudika yaNdangii, real name Laudika Thanky Hamutenya, is a 26-year-old Namibian film-maker. He has a bachelor’s degree in writing and directing from AFDA in Cape Town, South Africa.
Hamutenya has written more than 10 screenplays, with eight directed by himself. His films have been produced in Windhoek, Cape Town and Ludwigsburg.
After graduating in 2019, he began to work in advertising for Hashtag Media, doing work with corporate clients like MultiChoice Namibia, Prosperity Health, Paratus and Renaissance Health, among others.
In 2020, Hamutenya moved to Germany for a six-month international exchange programme at the film academy in Ludwigsburg. “While there, I wrote and directed ‘Lauf’.
“The film has been screened in Germany, Greece, France, Turkey and India. It has also won best student film awards at three festivals and has been nominated in three more,” he shared.
In 2021, Laudika was credited for co-writing ‘Stray Flower’, a German short film shot in Walvis Bay, which he was also the assistant director for.
“I am currently the creative director of Namibia’s first ever dating show called ‘Kapana Spice’. The show streams on YouTube,” Hamutenya said.
